| G.L. Byars, Jr., founder
and past President of Byars & Associates, Inc., is a lifelong
resident of Jasper, AL. Byars attended Auburn University. With
the beginning of World War II, Byars joined the U. S. Army Air
Force, serving from June 1941 until October 1945, 28 months of
this period with the 8th Air Force in England. With the end of
the war, Byars returned to Jasper. AL, where he, along with his
wife, Jean H. Byars, founded Byars Insurance Agency in 1946. Starting
with two companies, this agency has grown to one of the leading
agencies in Alabama. In addition to being actively involved
in the insurance industry since 1946, Bvars has been an active
participant in his church and community, having served First
Baptist Church (Board of Deacons over 40 years). and has also
served in the following positions:

- Chairman - March of Dimes Fund Drive
- Chairman - United Way
- Boy Scouts
- Charter Member & Past President, Jasper Jaycees
- Director, Alabama Independent Agents (several terms)
- Director. Chamber of Commerce
- Industrial Board, City of Jasper
- Zoning Board. City of Jasper
- Jasper Medical Clinic Board
- Member, Space Commission for the Space Center, Huntsville,
AL
- Board of Trustees. Walker College
- Board of First National Bank of Jasper
Byars is presently serving as Chairman of the Board of Byars
& Associates, Inc.
