George
S. (Steve) Byars, President of Byars & Associates, Inc., was
born in Jasper, Alabama in 1949. After matriculating through
the Jasper public schools, Byars attended and graduated with
honors in 1971 from Samford University with a B.S. Degree in
Business Administration (Finance and Insurance). Byars then
attended and obtained a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1974 from
the University of Alabama School of Law. After serving as Law
Clerk for the U.S. District Court (Northern District of Alabama)
in Birmingham, Alabama from 1974 to 1975.
Byars returned to Jasper, Alabama and entered the private
practice of law from 1975 to 1976. On January 1, 1976, Byars
entered the insurance industry with Byars Insurance Agency and
has continued with the agency since that time. In addition to
being solidly grounded in all facets of insurance.
Byars has served his community in a variety of positions including
chairman of the Jasper City Board of Education, President of
the Walker Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as Board Member,
Black Warrior Council (Boy Scouts of America). Additionally,
Byars is an active member of First Baptist Church of Jasper,
where he serves as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Byars
is a member of the Jasper Kiwanis Club and serves on the Board
of Directors of the First National Bank of Jasper.
Steve is married to Emily Banks Byars. They have three children:
Jill, John and Rebekah.
